Basalt continuous fiber is a kind of continuous fiber which is produced by natural basalt as raw material and melted at high temperature. Basalt continuous fiber has good wave permeability, adiabatic and sound insulation properties, high temperature resistance and erosion resistance, and is currently mainly used in the production of auto parts, cultural and sports goods and electronic appliances, with a wide range of applications, and is one of the key high-tech fiber products developed in China.
In the production of basalt continuous fiber, it has mainly experienced three generations of production process, which are all-platinum crucible drawing process, combined drawing furnace drawing process and pool kiln drawing process. The most important indicator to measure the advanced degree of basalt continuous fiber equipment and technology is the number of holes in the drawing leakage plate, with the continuous progress of modern technology, most enterprises have adopted 400 holes, 800 holes of the leakage plate, and gradually to the direction of 1600 holes, 2400 holes, will help reduce costs.
In 2020, there are more than seventy enterprises producing basalt continuous fiber in China, among which there are only ten enterprises that can produce on a large scale. In 2021, the production capacity of basalt continuous fiber in China is around 40,000 tons, and the actual output is only 12,000 tons. In the world, China is the main basalt continuous fiber producing country, and the output occupies about half of the world.
In the domestic basalt continuous fiber production capacity is mainly gathered in Sichuan Province, Zhejiang Province, Guizhou Province, Jiangsu Province and Henan Province, of which Sichuan Province is the main production area, with a production capacity of about 24,000 tons, and a production volume of 0.9 million tons in 2021, and an output value of 180 million yuan. In Sichuan, basalt continuous fiber production capacity is mainly distributed in Guang'an, Chengdu, Deyang, etc. A complete industrial chain has been initially formed.
China is the main exporting country of basalt continuous fiber with high annual export volume, and the export volume continued to climb during 2015-2019, growing from 0.22 million tons to 0.91 million tons. However, in 2020 by the epidemic, the export of basalt continuous fiber is restricted, and the export volume decreases slightly to 0.57 million tons in 2021. Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang are the main export provinces of basalt continuous fiber in China. The import volume of basalt continuous fiber in China is low, mainly concentrated in Zhejiang Province, with a higher import volume of 1,000 tons in 2021.
